Gotcha Day = 7.22.13!

We have it! It's finally official!
These last few days have been a whirlwind.

Thursday (6/20) - unexpectedly received news that our travel approval was on its way from China (no big delay after all! Praise God!).
Friday (6/21) - our travel approval arrived to U.S.
Saturday (6/22) - our travel agent found us some Great rates and placed our itinerary on hold, since we were expecting to receive confirmation of our consulate appointment by Monday/Tuesday.
Sunday (6/23) through Tuesday (6/25) - we waited...and waited...and waited for the final confirmation, knowing that our itinerary can't be kept on hold much longer. On the afternoon of Tuesday (6/25), we found out that we're actually waiting for her orphanage to confirm the date (and not the consulate). Our travel agent was able to rebook the same itinerary for us, just for another day.
Wednesday (6/26) - received our final confirmation of our consulate appointment (8/1/13), which makes our Gotcha Day 7/22/13! Finalizing our itinerary today!

God is Gracious,

Opportunities to Build Trust

So this is not a very happy post...but hopefully still one that's worth reading.

Yesterday we received an email from our agency that the U.S. Consulate in China will be moving to a new location in mid-July (around the time we were expected to arrive there). With this move they will be closing down shop for about a week and a half. We have no idea what this will mean for us, except that our trip will possibly be delayed some.

On top of this, we received news today that CCCWA (The China Center for Children's Welfare and Adoption) has been experiencing technical challenges since implementing their new database. This is also causing delays. Our last step - receiving our travel approval - was supposed to happen in the next 2-3 weeks, but unless CCCWA's technical issues are resolved soon, it will probably take longer to receive our TA.

Obviously these are not the kind of news we wanted to receive...but we know that God is still the One who guides us through every step of this adoption process. He knows the end from the beginning. We trust that He already has the best dates picked out for our travels.

Please continue to keep us and other families affected by these delays in your prayers.

God is gracious,

Ways to Participate

As our travel time quickly approaches (our expected time of travel is mid-July), family and friends have expressed their desire to participate in our adoption process somehow. We feel incredibly blessed that God has allowed us to afford the finances of our adoption process debt-free, mainly through Allan's web businesses. It also helps that Siana will be age 2 when we get her and that she is our third girl (we don't have very many things we need to buy for her). Still, we know that some family and friends would love to take part in our adoption journey in some way.

So here are some ways of how you can participate:
1. We can always use prayers...before, during, and after our trip to China. We will be bringing our two older girls with us, and it will be a long trip for all of us. Please pray for health, safety, and ease of adjustment for all.
2. We would love to receive a note written from your family to Siana. You can include prayers, Bible verses, a picture of your family, or whatever else you would like to include for her to look back on in the years to come. I will put them all together in her album (see below). If you can, please write your note in an index card and mail it to us along with a family photo (see example below).

3. Although we are not accepting monetary donations for our family's adoption process, we will accept them on behalf of her orphanage. Our agency told us that once we're in China, we will be able to ask her orphanage what type of needs they have, and we will be able to buy some of the supplies they need (i.e. diapers, formula, blankets, etc.). Your contribution does not need to be any large amount. Anything you give will be added to the amount we use to buy supplies for her orphanage.

Here is how you can send your note and/or contribution:
-Through (send to email address
-Send cash or check to our mailing address (please email us at if you need our mailing address).

Thank you so much for joining us on our journey, whether through prayers, keeping up with our blog, writing a note, or sending a contribution to her orphanage. We are so thankful and blessed to have you in our lives.

God is gracious,
